Stavros Basseas | Co-Founder & Principal

Dr. Stavros Basseas has been a technologist in the hearing aid industry for more than 30 years, developing products to improve impaired hearing and earning several patents. He is a published author and lecturer in the field of hearing technology and has served as a consultant to several start-­up companies, NGOs and associations.

From 1982 to 1989, Stavros served as Senior Research Engineer at Intellitech, Inc., where he was involved in the development of the first digital sound processor for hearing aids.He joined Beltone in 1989 as Principal Engineer, specializing in hearing aid design, speech processing algorithms and improved fitting and diagnostic systems. He was promoted to Director of Research and Development in 1995, where he led development of more than 50 new hearing aid products and technologies.

After Beltone was acquired by GN Resound in 1999, he continued as Chief Technologist, leading development of new software, technology platforms and component designs. He left GN Resound in 2005 to serve as an international consultant in hearing technologies.

Separately, in 1991, Stavros established Zenith Sound, Inc. as a clinic and private lab for the development of new digital hearing aid concepts and prototypes. In 2007, he also created Conversion Sound, Inc. to develop low-­cost, technologically advanced amplification devices for underserved developing markets.

In 2012, Conversion Sound established Sound World Solutions to commercialize a platform that uses advanced technology and low-­cost consumer electronics components for a programmable personal sound amplifier that can be easily and cost effectively dispensed anywhere in the world.

A native of Greece, Stavros earned a B.S. in Information Engineering from the University of Illinois -­ Chicago, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the American Auditory Society and is a licensed dispenser of hearing aid products.
